I hate yellow.
The color has been banned from my wardrobe, my home, my LIFE for many years now.
So what on EARTH am I doing wearing this yellow dress?
Hang with me a minute while I explain...
One of the principles I live by is Honor Your Preferences. If you've been
around the Rediscover Radiance community for a while, you've probably heard me talk about it often.
Here's the gist: We can be so used to sacrificing ourselves for other people that we lose ourselves.
One way of reclaiming your identity and WORTH is to fiercely, consistently honor your preferences as much as possible. Drink water from your favorite glass. Write with your favorite color pen. You get the idea.
Some of my clients think it feels a little selfish at first. (We DO have to live with other people and respect their wishes as well. I'm not saying be a tyrant. I'm saying do it whenever possible.)
But here's the thing: The more you do it, the LESS selfish you become.
Why? Because you make such a habit of honoring your
preferences, it's easier to WILLINGLY honor someone else's preferences without resentment or feeling like a martyr.
Which brings me to the yellow dress...
My husband's been telling me for years how good I look in yellow. But... I hate yellow.
AND... I've been honoring my preferences fiercely and consistently for a long time. So I was open to his suggestion. Willing
to try it for him.
It had to be the right shade, of course. Muted and soft are NOT my thing.
Well, it turns out that Big Bird yellow IS my thing!
I don't hate the dress. I actually like it. And I'm not gonna lie... I very much liked the attention I got from my hubby when I wore it (heehee).
So honor your preferences. It'll build your confidence.
And, you may just find that you're open to possibilities you never thought of before.
