I had the great honor of teaching a segment at Kim Galloway's Brew Your Book event today.
If you don't know Kim, she's a GENIUS book-writing coach at New Frontier Books who works with purpose-driven authors to get their message out to the world.
She asked me to teach about knowing and accepting who you are - "flaws" and all - and having the courage to PUT that you on the page.
So I talked about Smurfs...
Yes,
Smurfs.
Smurfs are flat, one-dimensional characters who are defined by one trait only. Grouchy Smurf complains about everything, no matter the situation he's in. Jokey Smurf has one trick up his sleeve (the exploding box) and he enjoys annoying others with his prank. Gargamel is all bad, and Papa Smurf is all good.
But you, , are not a Smurf. You are multi-faceted and complex. Full of inconsistencies, flaws, and contradictions.
And ALL of that is okay.
Don't try to hide parts of you that you think you'll be judged on. Don't pretend to be someone you're not. Don't hide your flaws under a veneer of perfection.
Often, it takes healing the hurting parts of you to have the confidence and courage to be 100% authentically
yourself.
But hiding and pretending are exhausting. Unfulfilling. And soul-crushing.
What do you need to heal? What labels do you need to shed? What lies do you need to replace? What fears do you need to let go of?
When you have the courage to accept yourself, love yourself, and BE yourself, everything
changes. You stop chasing achievement, relationships, or status for your worth. You stop escaping through toxic behavior. You stop feeling like a fraud and fearing that, any day now, you'll be found out.
You START standing up for yourself. Establishing and maintaining boundaries. ENJOYING the success you achieve. Feeling more joy, fulfillment, and peace.
You start living the purpose you were created
for.
Are you ready to do the healing work to rediscover the heart and soul of who you are? To drop the veneer of perfectionism and shed the constant fear of imposter syndrome? To finally feel at peace with yourself and give yourself the same unconditional love and acceptance you give others?
