Â
"No one will buy me a cake!"
Â
A woman in a Facebook group for people with food allergies wrote 2 long paragraphs
about how sad she was that none of her family members cared enough to buy her a birthday cake that was safe for her to eat.
Â
They'd bought her grocery store cakes in the past, but she can't eat them. So, instead of trying to find an allergy-safe bakery, her family gave up.
Â
Everyone deserves to eat safely, free from the fear of allergic reactions. And we all want to feel loved and appreciated - especially on our birthday.
Â
But what struck me about the post was the woman's seeming helplessness. As
if she wasn't a grown woman with her own money who could buy her own cake. Or make it herself.
Â
Instead of taking her happiness into her own hands, she was miserable waiting on other people to make her happy.
Â
But guess what? That's not their job.
Â
You, , are responsible for your own happiness.
Â
And when you take responsibility for that, you get more confident.
Â
I hear versions of that woman's story all the time:
- "I love flowers but my spouse/partner/housekeeper never buys them for me."
- "I want to try this new restaurant, but I don't have anyone to go with."
- "I'd love
to visit Greece, but I don't want to travel alone."
Â
You don't have to wait on other people to fulfill you.
Â
Buy yourself the flowers.
Â
Make your own cake.
Â
Go to the restaurant, movie, or exotic island by
yourself.
Â
YOU are worth it. Not ONLY if the experience can be shared. Not ONLY if someone else does it or buys it for you.
Â
What have you been putting off because you're waiting on someone else to do it for you?
Â
Just do it.
Â
You don't need to wait on other people to validate you.
Â
You don't need their approval or participation.
Â
Do it for you.
Â
Because you're worth it.
