There's a Hebrew proverb that says, "Life and death are in the power of the tongue."
Chances are, you talk to yourself all the time - like a four-year-old after too much Kool-Aid.
But are you telling yourself the truth?
When it comes to how you see yourself, perception is often NOT reality.
For decades, I believed that I was
worthless and unlovable. Fundamentally, at my core. I believed the lies about my lack of worth that were implicit in others' treatment of me. And my self-talk reflected that. My Inner Mean Girl bullied me relentlessly. (Read about my journey to rediscover my worth and quiet my Inner Mean Girl in Secondhand Worth: A Memoir.)
What does your Inner Mean Girl say? Are you speaking life or death to yourself?
Listen to your self-talk for a few hours. Write down what you hear.
Then challenge it. Is it true? Where did it come from? How and when did you start to believe it?
Your Inner Mean Girl is a liar.
Don't believe her. Tell her to sit down, shut up, and leave you alone.
