Hey ,
Happy World Kindness Day!
Today, my Facebook feed was flooded with memes about being kind to one another. I'm sure yours was, too.
Kindness is definitely something we need more of in our world today.
Practicing random acts of kindness and paying it forward are two easy ways to spread kindness.
I also love all the reminders I've seen recently on social media reminding us to consider others' thoughts and feelings: we're all grieving in some way, so be kind; you never know what that person has been through, so be kind; be kind - your words and actions may be the only kind gesture that person receives, so be kind; etc.
I love them all.
Today, on World Kindness Day, I want to remind you of an often-overlooked act of kindness - being kind to yourself.
Let's face it - you're probably a pretty kind person. You're considerate of others. You're generous. You compliment others.
If you're like most of my clients, you are a genuinely kind person. To others.
But you struggle with being kind to yourself.
You say things to yourself that you'd never say to another human being.
Think about your self-talk for a moment. Be brutally honest. What do you say to yourself? What hate-filled words do you spew at yourself day in and day out?
Now, imagine looking at your best friend and saying those words to her.
Imagine saying, "You big, fat, stupid, ugly cow! You never do anything right!"
You wouldn't SAY that to her. Because it's mean and it's wrong and it's just downright AWFUL.
Yet you say it to yourself, in some shape or form, multiple times a day.
So on World Kindness Day, take to heart the reminder to be kind to yourself.
Say loving things to yourself.
Speak to yourself like you'd speak to your best friend.
Be your own best friend.
Because you're worth it.
